Mare Island Dry Docks Reopens To Scrap Naval Ships
Feb, 18, 2011 - Vallejo, California, USA - The USS Solon Turman is the firs boat to be scrapped at the Allied Defense Recycling facility at the Mare Island Dry Docks. It was towed from the reserve fleet in Suisun Bay a short distance away. Before, boats were towed nearly 5,000 miles through the Panama Canal up to Texas where theyw ere scrapped for metal.
